Net Zero Strategy
We run our business with sustainable, ethical and responsible practices, putting people and planet first. We aim to work with partners and clients who care about our communities and the environment as much as we do.
As a team and as individuals we commit to;
- Monitoring and reporting on our environmental impact
- Making conscious sustainable decisions that will improve our environmental impact
- Encouraging good environmental stewardship throughout our team
- Offsetting our environmental impact through our partnership with Ecologi
- Our goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2030.
Our environmental management system includes reporting on usage of electricity, gas, waste disposal, travel and carbon emissions. We track the following metrics and report the results on a quarterly basis to the senior management team. We use the Normative website to track our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with accuracy.
Scope 1, 2, and 3 are categories for classifying greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions based on where they originate from. Scope 1 emissions are from sources that a company owns or controls directly, such as burning fuel for heating an office. Scope 2 emissions from the generation of purchased energy, such as the electricity used in a company’s buildings. Scope 3 emissions occur in the value chain of a company, such as travel.
Scope 1 Emissions (Direct GHG):
- Our emissions are primarily from heating. We are evaluating the eco-credentials of our energy supplier, Good Energy, compared to standard providers like British Gas.
- We do not own company vehicles.
Scope 2 Emissions (Indirect GHG):
- Our electricity consumption is powered by Ecotricity, which uses 100% renewable energy, resulting in zero market-based emissions. We still record and report usage to capture location-based emissions.
Scope 3 Emissions:
- We are measuring commuting and travel emissions by tracking employees’ travel methods for the month of February.. Once recorded we will look at ways to offset.
The actions we have taken to date include;
- Purchasing environmentally sustainable products, such as recycled toilet paper, tissues and kitchen roll (from Who Gives A Crap), eco-friendly cleaning products ( Evans GreenTick Range) and recycled paper for the printer.
- Choosing BCorps certified products to stock our kitchen such as Wildfarmed bread, Yeo Valley dairy products, Rude Health cereals, Minor Figures oat milk and Clipper tea.
- We offset our emissions through Ecologi, ensuring that our carbon footprint is balanced by impactful environmental projects.
- We have an active recycling disposal system.
- We have a hazard waste disposal system managed by our IT contractor Agilis.
- Offering a Bike to Work scheme to encourage cycling.
- Interagency 10k daily steps target to encourage walking.
- Running office heating on a timer to ensure that its not used outside of working hours from the Mr. President office. This includes turning it off on Monday & Friday when staff work from home.
Actions that we are implementing include;
- Improving our consumption and waste disposal system to include better recycling, incorporating composting bins, eliminating single use plastic in the office, and encouraging reusable options.
- We will start logging our data publicly on an annual basis through the Carbon Disclosure Project from August 2026.
- Ongoing conversations with our landlord specifically about energy efficiency improvements, water efficiency improvements and waste reduction programs which are managed across the building as opposed to by the tenant.
This document is reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis. The next update is due in January 2027.
