The Weekly Address #19

Stars, Scale, and Volcanic Hail

Woohoo! We’ve made it to another landmark week on the roadmap to normality. There’s so much to look forward to, and lots of work to get done too. Before we all get back into our busy schedules, here are a few things you’ll love, jump in.

First up, a really touching way to reward loyalty. Fans of the Amsterdam football club ‘Ajax’ hadn’t been able to get involved in the action this season – for obvious reasons – so the club decided to literally share their league title with them, in 42,000 pieces. This got us right in the feels:

The world’s full of things we generally understand are physically large. Still, it’s mind blowing to see some of them next to fully grown human beings. That’s what you get with @HumansForScale. Check the page out to see people next to things like the skull of a blue whale, the base of a redwood tree or a 12,000 year old Mammoth tusk in Siberia. Fascinating stuff.

Now, we all love watching an underdog rise to the top. Psst, that’s pretty much why contestant sob stories feature so much on shows like X Factor – it’s human nature, we can’t help it. That’s what makes the next bit of creative so brilliant; it’s a compelling underdog story in almost no words.

Lastly, something really dangerous up close, but extremely calming you to look at it from afar. Here’s soothing drone footage of Iceland’s Fagradalsfjall volcano erupting in March 2021. It’s simply magnificent stuff.
